Did you graduate in a technical discipline no more than two years ago and do you want to learn and experience how we at Van Oord work on unique maritime projects?
Would you like to learn all about ground-breaking technology under, on and above the water? Then being a trainee at Van Oord is the perfect fit for you. Our projects are often unique and are without exception full with technical, financial and organisational challenges. As a technical trainee, you will have a front row seat on world-class maritime projects, with a strong focus on sustainability and on your own development. So don’t hesitate and apply now as a technical trainee at Van Oord!
Along with a group of 12 trainees, you will embark on an intense and fascinating year. At our offices in Rotterdam and Gorinchem, you will get to know all the departments and areas of Van Oord in double-quick time. For 16 weeks, we will get you working on one or more of our Dutch / international projects. Offshore wind farms, offshore pipelines, ports, dykes, sluices and flood defences – sometimes projects we are the only one who is willing to take them on. In the meantime, you will actively work to build a good network, from the shop floor to the top of the company, starting within your trainee group. Naturally, we will provide personal support, courses and training sessions for your personal and professional development. At the end of the traineeship, you will start work in a great role at our head office in Rotterdam, Gorinchem or at one of our project locations worldwide, where we will be calling on your knowledge and ingenuity.
“The traineeship is a real development year, which means that the focus is on learning everything about Van Oord, its people and its activities; the ideal way to kick-start my career. Quickly after starting the traineeship, our traineeship group became a group of friends. This led to a lot of fun throughout the year, during and after work.”
– Tom van Eijk, Trainee Engineer
In order to be eligible for the traineeship, to start with you must have an MSc or BSc in one of the following disciplines:
Offshore & Dredging Engineering
European Wind Energy
Sustainable Energy Technology
Industrial Engineering (including technical pre-university education)
Transport, Logistics and Infrastructure
Business Economics / Accountancy
At least as important are your personal qualities and team spirit. That starts with entrepreneurship, flexibility and strong analytical skills. You are not afraid to make your voice heard and you combine innovative ideas with a constructively critical attitude. You always stay focused on the end result and you do not get discouraged if things do not always go to plan. If you combine these qualities with an excellent command of English (the programme is entirely taught in English) and up to two years of work experience, we would love to have you as a participant in our technical traineeship programme!
We offer you a year focused on your development, during which you will learn all about Van Oord, our people and everything we do. This represents a great professional start, with plenty of opportunity to develop very quickly both professionally and personally – internationally, too – so that you can continue to grow in your role. Thanks to the team-building activities, you will form a tight-knit group with your fellow trainees in no time. You will find this network to be very useful both during the traineeship and when you start your career at Van Oord.
